Crashing, expensive updates

My daughter also downloaded the new updates and now cant get it to load- it keeps going back to her iPod homepage. She is so upset since she spent her own money to purchase this expensive app!! I was even unaware we were going to be required to purchase more to play with the new puppy!! Now Im upset!! When does it end?? Only thing I can do is a poor review for now to keep someone else from dealing with it.
